About Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific

Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific

Beginnings

The KCUCS began in the winter months of 2001 as "weekend get togethers" in Cape Girardeau, MO in Dr. Kessingers basement. Twenty to thirty doctors and students would gather on weekends going over the Philosophy, Science, and Art of Upper Cervical Chiropractic. The first official seminar began November, 2001 in Atlanta, Ga.

Drs. Mike Anderson and Henri Dallies were instrumental in their roles of guidance and advice in the beginning stages of the KCUCS and its development. Dr. Dallies organizational skills allowed for growth of the program while Dr. Anderson steadfast stance on the fundamental principles of Upper Cervical Chiropractic helped anchor the KCUCS. Dr. Kessinger was largely responsible for the original content of the KCUCS program. All three put their heart and hands to action in an effort to construct a solid foundation for the program to endure through generations.

From its beginning, the KCUCS laid out three priorities which have become guiding principles for the organization.

1. Education: It was the desire of the original KCUCS leaders that Knee Chest work would be elevated in the level of education. This became a primary pursuit of the young organization and still remains to this day. The KCUCS originated the Upper Cervical Neurology module as a natural consequence of this educational desire. There is a significant academic influence running through every KCUCS module. The KCUCS finds a good balance between "bringing the Spiz" of Upper Cervical Chiropractic while also bringing the science.

2. Research: There is a growing body of research in Upper Cervical Chiropractic, however, much more is needed. The KCUCS has as one of its major tenets the idea of significantly adding to this body of research in Upper Cervical in general, as well as Knee Chest work specifically. A number of articles have been published using the KCUCS Knee Chest procedure. The KCUCS is currently working on laying an infrastructure for multiple studies in the near future. It is the desire of the KCUCS to promote a research and publishing environment.

3. Mastery: The third priority of the KCUCS is in "Developing Masters". It has been the desire of the KCUCS Leadership to assist doctors on the road to mastery in Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic. We believe that KCUCS Knee Chest is something worthy to put forth effort to Master. It takes Dedication, Desire, and Education. All three must be present over time. The KCUCS has developed innovative ways in training doctors and prides itself in providing a home for those with this level of commitment.

The leadership of the KCUCS was all trained through Dr. Michael Kale. Drs. Kessinger and Dallies became instructors for the Kale organization in the 1990's, both being awarded "Instructor of the Year". Drs. Kessinger and Dallies as well served on the Kale Research Council board and were awarded the Kale Fellow, FKCS designation. The KCUCS has received its central influence through Dr. Michael Kale and his work. Beyond this obvious connection, the KCUCS has been influenced at least at some level by nearly every Upper Cervical technique, taking concepts brought forth by others and applying them to Knee Chest Posture Upper Cervical Chiropractic work.

The following are a few of the more important ideas originated by Dr. Kessinger:

1. Curvilinear Misalignment of C1 in Subluxation. The foundational basis of this concept is rooted in the work of William Blair, D.C., originator of the Blair technique.

2. Upper Cervical Biomechanics in the Knee Chest Posture: Paradoxical motion of CO-C1 upon head rotation, C1 moving inferior to CO upon full rotation, and coupling motion all applied to the Knee Chest posture.

3. Medullary Lock: Dr. Kessinger originated the Medullary Lock concept and first described it as "the 4 externals and the 1 internal". The Medullary Lock was built upon the foundation laid down by Dr. John D Grostic in the Dentate Ligament Theory. It is a broader application of the dentate ligament theory. Following the original idea, Drs. Robert Kessinger and Mike Anderson are credited with the development of the Medullary Lock Theory. Dr. Mike Anderson coined the phrase "Medullary Lock".

4. 6 steps to the Knee Chest Posture Upper Cervical Solid Head Piece Adjustment: The actual Knee Chest Posture adjustment is not original. This was taught to Drs. Kessinger, Dallies and Anderson by Dr. Michael Kale. However, Dr. Kessinger was the first to break the adjustment down into these steps. Drs. Mike Anderson, Henri Dallies and Patrick Anderson have contributed to further development of the 6 steps over the past 9 years of teaching the Knee Chest Posture adjustment through the KCUCS Certification Program.

5. Upper Cervical Neurology concepts: Upper Cervical application of the HPA axis, HPT axis, Sympathetic Dominance.

The KCUCS Leaderships meets consistently throughout the year at seminars as well as conference calls. Once per year the whole KCUCS Leadership team gathers together over a weekend at Evin's Mill in Tennessee. These meetings are for the purpose of goal setting, planning and creating strategies. Many of the updated ideas regarding improving quality of the program have come out of these meetings.

The current KCUCS board members are; Drs. Robert Kessinger, Mike Anderson, Henri Dallies, Patrick Anderson and Sid Williams. The rest of the KCUCS Leadership and Instructors consists of; Drs. Trevor Qualls, Jered Wayland, Ken Cushman, Will Soriano, Matt Wolfertz and J.R. Crabtree. These are 11 highly dedicated KCUCS doctors to practicing, teaching, and researching the principles of Upper Cervical Chiropractic.
